Responsibilities of the Bride ( and not forgetting Mother!)
- To select the bridal party- the chief bridesmaid, bridesmaids and if appriopriate flower girls and page boys. She must also let them know their roles in the lead up to and on the big day. Finally, she must arrange for the clothes they are to wear and be ready for any size adjustments that may be necessary nearer the day.
- To Choose her wedding outfit usually in conjunction with her mother including the dress and not forgetting those traditional accessories.
- Arranging and booking the beauty team, the hairdresser, make up artist and then deciding which members of her party will be attended to on the day.
- Advise the chief bridesmaid of her hen night and provide her with a list of invitees.
- To book the cars for the bridal party, one for the bride and a second for the brides mother and the bridesmaids and pages.
- Choosing and arranging for the flowers at the church and reception venue. However, traditionally, it is the responsibility of the groom to arrange for the button holes. However, close liaison to ensure no colour clash is essential.
- After the ceremony, to arrange the writing of the thank you letters.
Responsibilities of the Groom
The groom in conjunction with the best man is traditionally responsible for the following -
- Overseeing the legalities and payment of ceremony dues.
- Selecting his bridal party and advising them of the correct attire
- Advising the best man of his stag night and the proposed guest list.
- Arranging and being responsible for the rings.
- Arranging transport for himself and the best man to the wedding
- Paying for the button holes
- Buying the thank you presents for the bridesmaids, best man and ushers.
- Organising and paying for the honeymoon
- Making a speech at the wedding breakfast.
